Why cite sources?
To contextualize your work within the broader academic discourse.
Annie Dillard
- Tomboy- hanging with the boys; plays "boys'" games; set her in opposition to the stereotypical girl;
- Outgoing - in a crowd/holding her own within the crowd; physically
- Compassionate - hangs with the "slow" kid
- Independent - making iceball; knew her way around
- Adventurous - willing to put herself out there.
Why write autobiography?
- Quick anecdote about a time you were terrified/happiest/changed - a time at which there was something AT STAKE.
- What does that say about you?
- What is different about that than the way you would like to be perceived?
- What is it about this experience/anecdote that would make anyone be able to know the experience as something that they can feel/think/remember/understand? . . . . . . UNIVERSALITY.
THIS IS THE ROUGH DRAFT OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY ESSAY.
Post on your blog.
