citing sources

Citing sources

Why cite sources?
To contextualize your work within the broader academic discourse.

Annie Dillard

  • Tomboy- hanging with the boys; plays "boys'" games; set her in opposition to the stereotypical girl;
  • Outgoing - in a crowd/holding her own within the crowd; physically
  • Compassionate - hangs with the "slow" kid
  • Independent - making iceball; knew her way around
  • Adventurous - willing to put herself out there.

Why write autobiography?

  1. Quick anecdote about a time you were terrified/happiest/changed - a time at which there was something AT STAKE.
  2. What does that say about you?
  3. What is different about that than the way you would like to be perceived?
  4. What is it about this experience/anecdote that would make anyone be able to know the experience as something that they can feel/think/remember/understand? . . . . . . UNIVERSALITY.

 THIS IS THE ROUGH DRAFT OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY ESSAY.
    Post on your blog.
